Ancelotti sacked despite second-round qualification

Napoli manager Carlo Ancelotti has been sacked despite sealing qualification for the knockout stage of the Champions League against Genk.
Ancelotti has been under pressure to deliver especially in the Serie A and the club owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has decided to pathways with the former AC Milan and Real Madrid manager.
A statement on the club’s official Twitter account broke the news, writing: ‘Napoli has decided to revoke the role of manager of the first team from Mr. Carlo Ancelotti. The rapport of friendship, esteem and mutual respect between the club, its president Aurelio De Laurentiis and Carlo Ancelotti remain intact.’

Former AC Milan player and manager Gennaro Gattuso is expected to succeed Ancelotti at the San Paolo Stadium.
Gattuso played under Ancelotti during the pair’s time at AC Milan.
Napoli has not won a Serie A match in the last five games and they are seventh on the Italian league standings, The team has failed to step up their games since the club owner went up against the players following the 1-1 draw against Salzburg in the Champions League group stage.
The players refused to go on a training camp that the Napoli chairman had organized in response to the draw and it sparked a furious stand-off between the players and the owner.
Ancelotti is one of the candidates considered to take over Arsenal.
