Arsenal took a step back in their chance for top 4 and Champions League football when Brighton claimed all three points at the Emirates
Brighton and Hove Albion defeated Arsenal 2:1 on Saturday as goals from Mwepu and Leandro Trossard saw the Gunners lost their grip on the top four spot.
Arsenal lost back to back games in less than a week just two days earlier they lost to Crystal palace and today when there fans needed them to respond they lost again
Brighton looked lively in the opening exchanges and got the first goal on the 28th minutes,
Leandro Trossard was found by Enock Mwepu and powerfully side-footed past Aaron Ramsdale
Gabriel Martinelli had the ball in the net for Arsenal, but after consulting the VAR, referee David Coote overturned the goal because Martinelli was offside in the build-up.
The second half was much better for Arsenal as they tried to play their game but Graham Potter’s men held thier own.
Arsenal came closest as second half substitute Eddie Nketia saw his goal bound header saved brilliantly by Brighton Spanish goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.
Brighton would then get their second goal, Moses Caicedo making his premier league debut cross the ball for the impressive Mwepu who smashed home the ball to give Brighton a commanding lead.
Eddie Nketia was causing the Brighton defense all sought of problem as his shot came off the post.
Arsenal then pulled a goal back through Martin Odegaard in spectacular fashion as his long range shot had a little deflection but still found it way to the net.
The match ending 2:1 in for of Brighton despite Arsenal late onslaught. With Arsenal opening the top four race wide open once more.
Mikel Arteta spoke after the match saying;
“We were sloppy,we were not precise, second best in a lot of duels.its the same players that have been playing all season,and they took us all the way here”.
