Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed that Liverpool target Thiago Alcantara has asked to leave this summer, but says the club have yet to receive any offers for the £36million-rated midfielder.
The 29-year-old was part of the squad that won the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal this summer but is now keen to move on after winning the league in each of his seven seasons in Bavaria, plus four cup triumphs.
Thiago only has one year left to run on his current contract at Bayern, and Rummenigge says the Spain international has made Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic aware of his desire for a new challenge.
On Thursday, Rummenigge told German media: ‘Hasan had talks with Thiago. They were always very positive, but he told Hasan some time ago that he wants to do something new to finish his career.
‘So far no club has contacted us. We don’t know if he’s settled things with a new club. Hasan is in talks with David and his advisor.
‘So far we haven’t found a solution. We want to extend. If that’s not possible, we have to look.’
Liverpool are reportedly ready to step up their chase for Thiago after boss Jurgen Klopp signed off on the deal.
However, while the Premier League champions have agreed terms with the 29-year-old, they are yet to match the German club’s £36m asking price and instead are only willing to pay around £23m instead.
