Chelsea have now conceded three plus goals against a newly promoted team in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge for only a second time.
The Blues previously did so against West Brom in April 2021 (2-5), with both instances coming under Thomas Tuchel.
Brentford have now scored four plus goals in a Premier League game for the very first time.
Despite the defeat Chelsea remain third on 59 points but fourth placed Arsenal could go two points behind the Blues if they beat Crystal Palace on Monday night.
After a goalless first half, Chelsea opened scoring on 48 minutes as Antonio Rudiger struck from 35 yards with an outrageous shot, which sneaked between the ‘keeper and post.
But just two minutes after Rudiger’s goal, Brentford equalized through Vitaly Janelt who smashed in the ball past Edourd Mendy.
In the 54th minute former Spurs star Christian Eriksen got his first goal for Brentford. He completed a quick counter-attack as he tapper home Bryan Mbeumo’s low cross.
On the hour mark Brentford went 3-1 up as Janelt grabbed his brace with a dink over Mendy.
And with three minutes left Yoane Wissa completed the rout after capitalizing on a mixup in the Chelsea defense.

And at Turf Moor, Manchester City returned to the top in the league table after securing a 2-0 win against Burnley.
It took Manchester City only five minutes to go back at the top of the table with goals from Kevin de Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan in the 25 minute.
And in other results, Manchester United drew 1-1 to Leicester City in Old Trafford, Wolves won Aston Villa 2-1, Leeds and Southampton played 1-1 and Norwich held Brighton to a goalless draw.
