Canadian Premier League team of the week
The Gatorade CPL Team of the Week for the sixteenth week of action in 2022 is brought to you by Comsmedia.
Forwards
Terran Campbell (Forge FC)
The Canadian born forward put 2 goals past the net of the Valour FC in a 3-1 victory last weekend. In addition Campbell is now the CPL’s all-time leading goalscorer between regular season and playoffs after a two-goal performance against Valour. The 2021 player of the year nominee has 4 goals and 3 assists this season and looks to be rounding back into the player of the year nominee caliber.
Marco Bustos (Pacific FC)
Bustos finally ended his goal drought and scored his first CPL goal this season against Calvary FC. The July player of the month’s performance reminded the rest of the league why he is one of its best attacking players. Aside from the goal, he was a threat throughout the match. He created three chances and helped create an own in the 3-0 victory against Calvary FC earning him a spot on the CPL team of the week.
Lifumpa Mwandwe (HFX Wanderers)
Lifumpa on his debut for Halifax came off the bench and saved his team for the day. 10 minutes after his substitution to replace Alex Marshall in the 67th minute he won a penalty to secure an equalizer for his team. His directness in addition to his physicality was a threat to FC Edmonton throughout the match.
Midfielders
Rezart Rama (Forge FC)
Having only joined Forge in mid-May, Rama has already made himself a fixture in the Gatorade Team of the Week. He once again made more touches than any other Forge player, and made 17 passes into the final third.
Kyle Bekker (Forge FC)
Undoubtedly, Bekker won the battle of presses this weekend with his press and interceptions leading to Forge’s winning goal.  He won possession back eight times in total, including twice in the final third, an impressive effort on a hot day in Hamilton.
Sean Young (Pacific FC)
The 21 year old Canadian has been sensational in recent weeks. His brilliancy against Calvary FC and his ability to move the ball quickly in transition was a key to Pacific’s success.
Max Tissot (Atletico Ottawa)
Unlike other matches, Tissot was allowed to get a bit further forward against York and he maximized the opportunity.  His brilliant ball to Brian Wright gave Atlético a critical second goal in their 3-0 victory.
Defenders
Miguel Acosta (Atletico Ottawa)
Acosta has been a crucial part of Ottawa’s rise to the top of the CPL table. His defensive performance against York this weekend was brilliant. Along side his 7th clean sheet and the highest in the league, he won seven of ten duels. Also, he made five interceptions and four clearances as Atleti picked up their victory.
Amer Didic (Pacific FC)
Didic was immense against Calvary FC which is believed to be one of the league’s best offensive sides. He made nine clearances, won three of four duels in the air and even had two shot attempts to help Pacific to one of its best defensive performances of the season.
Drew Beckie (Atletico Ottawa)
Atleti’s captain Beckie showed his masterclass against the Yorks.  He completed 45 of his 48 passes on the day, created a chance, had two shots, and won two fouls.
Goalkeepers
Callum Irving ( Pacific FC)
With three key saves, Callum helped Pacific preserve a crucial clean sheet therefore earning a spot on the week 16 CPL team of the week.
