Federicho Bernadeschi Joins Toronto FC
Major league soccer club Toronto Fc has confirmed the signing of Italian winger Federico Bernardeschi. The club announced this on Friday via their Instagram. Last season, the 28-year-old forward left Juventus as a free agent. Nevertheless, in 183 games for the Italian team, he recorded 12 goals and 24 assists.
He will be joining his Italian team mate Lorenzo Insigne in Toronto. They won the UEFA Euro 2020 together alongside Giorgio Chiellini who is also joining the major league soccer this summer.
Toronto Fc president Bill Manning said “We are thrilled to add Federico to our team.”
“As a player and a person, we believe he’s exactly what we need right now, both on the field and in the locker room. Federico has proven himself to be a champion. and a leader at Juventus and for the Italian national team and brings a pedigree to Toronto that’s second to none.”
The coaching staffs and the Toronto Fc fans are excited about the Italian addition. Bernardeschi has represented his country 38 times with 6 goals. He also scored the game winning penalty against England in the Euro 2020 finals.
Toronto Fc’s head coach and sporting director Bob Bradley said in a press release. “He’s an attacking player. He is also known for working hard for the team. Federico’s a left-footed player who’s comfortable playing on the right wing but can also slide into a central position when needed.”
The American club has been quite busy with signings this summer. They added to their squad the Canadian international midfielder Mark Anthony Kaye and Domenico Criscito. However they are also releasing some players like Alejandro Pozuelo, the 2020 Landon Donovan MLS MVP. They are trading the 30 year old Spanish to Inter Miami CF.
The Reds are 13th on the Eastern conference table with 19 points and are 7 points below the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs.
