Highest Scoring MLS Games 2022

The just concluded MLS week 23 was an incredible one. Since the beginning of this season, there have been a lot of goal scorings but this particular weekend was outstanding. The MLS recorded not just 1 but 4 different teams (Minnesota United FC vs Portland Timbers and Inter Miami CF vs FC Cincinnati) scoring 4 goals.

Today we will be looking at the five highest scoring games in the MLS this season. Although we still have till October before the season ends which is really exciting. Perhaps this list will have one or two additions.

Portland Timbers vs Sporting Kansas: 7-2 (watch)

May 14, 2020. Providence Park

Initially the match was an eye sore with Portland taking the lead, 1-0 at half time. 29 minutes into the second half the gates of goals finally opened. Firstly it was Sebastian Blanco leading the way with 2 goals while MLS NEXT Pro signing, Nathan Fogaca added two more goals. Although both teams got a red card in the same half, Marvin Lori and Santiago Moreno signed off the victory with 1 goal each.

FC Cincinnati vs New York City FC :4-4 (watch)

June 29, 2022. TQL Stadium

Cincinnati started off pretty well scoring 3 goals just 30 minutes into the match. But NYCFC equalized in the space of 7 minutes to the end of the first half with Heber scoring a brace. However, 7 minutes in the second half Gabriel Pereira put the ball through the net for NYCFC while Brenner equalized in the 70th minute ending the match at a 4-4 draw

Orlando City SC vs D.C. United : 3-5 (watch)

July 4, 2022. Exploring Stadium

Taxis Fountas once again showed his masterclass on this day. He scored 2 goals just 8 minutes into the game and completed his hattrick in the 51^st minute to earn D.C. a 3-0 lead. However Orlando replied with 2 goals in the 57th and 66th minute making it 3-2.  The match ended with a stoppage time goal from Nigel Robertha after Alexander Pato scored an 80th minute penalty for Orlando.

Minnesota United FC vs Portland Timbers : 4-4 (watch)

July 30,2022. Allianz Field

Both teams dominated a half in this showdown. Blanco opened the score sheet in just 13 seconds making it the fourth fastest goal in MLS regular season history.  But Minnesota took control in the 9th minute scoring 3 goals to lead at half time. Blanco completed his brace in the 50th minute before Jaroslaw Niezgoda equalized in the 53rd minute making it 3-3.

Although Blanco scored a 3rd goal in the 65th minute but it was later ruled as an own goal. Almost when it looked like the timbers might take three points, Luis Amarilla scored his second goal to end the match as a draw. Minnesota continues their unbeaten run to seven matches while Portland are now unbeaten in eight. In addition the match ended with 9 yellow cards.

Inter Miami CF vs FC Cincinnati: 4-4 (watch)

July 30, 2022. DRV PNK Stadium

It was tit for tat between both teams as the match ended in a 4-4 draw. Gonzalo Higuaín starred with a first half hattrick while Brandon Vazquez and Brenner scored a goal each.
