Iheanacho Scores As Leicester Shakes Off Rennes In Europa

Leciester city defeated Rennes to put one foot in Quarter final of the UEFA Europa conference league.



Kelechi iheanacho came off the bench to score a glorious goal as leciester city defeated Rennes 2:0 in the first of thier Europa conference league match.

The Foxes has been in great form of late in thier domestic league,as they welcomed back thier talismanic striker Jamie Vady, but was later ruled out due to a kneel injury.Brenda Rogers men came into the game knowing they needed three point to stand a chance against Rennes in the second leg in France.

The french side under Bruno Genesio has been impeccable as they find themselves in second spot in Ligue 1 scoring ten goals in thier last three matches, with the Gaetan Laborde thier highest goal scorer on 19 goals, Rennes side caused Tottenham Hotspur problems early on in the group stages of the competition drawing 2:2 when they visited Wembley stadium, so the french side are not short of goals looked to cause leciester all sorts of problems.

The Ligue 1 side pressured leciester early on as they looked to start the match on the front foot, leciester goalkeeper Jasper Schmeichel was in great form as he repelled everything Rennes threw at him.

Jeremy Doku was manacing on the left wing as he caused the leciester city back line all sort of trouble with his trickery and directness.

The host would get the first goal on the 29th minute, a long ball from defender Caglar Soyuncu was controled by Harvey Barnes who had the awareness to cut the ball back for Marc Albrighton to score a rocket.

Schmeichel made some good saves to deny the visitors an equalizer as the game drew to it’s conclusion, the Rennes attacker found a wall in the leciester city goalkeeper who pulled off a save from Rennes attacker Gaetan Laborde to keep the score at one nill.

The visitors had a strong claim for penalty as the ball recochet off Caglar Soyuncu’s hand before finding it’s way to Schmeichel, but the refeere wasn’t concerned about it as the defender did have knowledge of where the ball was.

Leciester would get thier second goal in the dying seconds of the game as second half substitutes Ademola Lookman and Kelechi iheanacho combined well to find Albrighton who in turn cut the ball back for Kelechi iheanacho who opened up his body and curled a beautiful goal from the reach of the Rennes goalkeeper to make the match 2:0.

With leciester leading the first leg comfortably they will bear in mind that this Bruno Genesio team will go all out to over turn the tie, leciester would hope to bring thier A game in the second leg to have any chance to make it to the quarter final of this inaugural competition.
