.James Harden Officially Joins the 76ers
It is no doubt that the name Harden is a nightmare to guards in the NBA. The 32 year old is clearly one of the most prolific scorers as well as one of the best players in the league. The 2009 Oklahoma City third NBA draft pick is arguably one of the best shooters in the game. He has made over 23,477 points and currently the 3rd most three-pointer of all time in just 942 games.
Harden has made his mark on the league winning the 2018 Kia MVP, 10x NBA All-Star (2013-2022), and a member of the league’s 75th Anniversary Team amidst other awards. Also he has exhibited his skills and master class with top teams like the Rockets, Brooklyn nets and now Philadelphia 76ers alongside great NBA players like Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Russell Westbrook.
Harden officially signed a two-year contract to stay with the Philadelphia 76ers after leaving the Nets. However, he is said to earn about $14.5 million lesser than he could have under his previous deal. The deal is worth slightly over $68 million, paying him about $33 million this season and a $35 million player option for the 2023-24 season. Although he had a $47.4 million option for this coming season that he declined last month. A formal agreement was reported on the 27th of July with the 76ers unveiling the 32 year star.
Even though the pay is lesser, the player has expressed his desire to join the team after the 2021/2022 season ended. “This is where I want to be. This is where I want to win, and I think we have the pieces to accomplish that goal.” Harden said on Wednesday. “From my first day with the 76ers organization, the team and the fans have helped me feel at home here in Philadelphia. I’m excited to improve from last season and I can’t wait to get out on the court with the guys and start this journey.” He said.
Basically, Harden gave himself a 30% pay cut allowing the 76ers to make moves such as signing forward P.J. Tucker and small forward Danuel House to strengthen the team. “We got some really good pieces this summer. It’s time for us to go do the hard work.” “Yeah, I’ll be here. Whatever makes this team, whatever allows this team to continue to grow and get better. Also do the things necessary to win and compete at the highest level.” He added.
He averaged 22.0 points and 10.3 assists with both Brooklyn and Philadelphia last season. His aim clearly is to win the championship with the 76ers and promises to give his best towards the cause.
