Liverpool given major Premier League title boost as restart plan remains on track
Liverpool remain on track for the title after Premier League clubs chose to press ahead with their plans to resume the season.
The latest Premier League meeting took place on Friday with a videoconference that lasted nearly four hours where they sought to agree on rules and regulations, particularly regarding health and safety, over a return to training and playing.
Top-flight football has been suspended since March 13 due to the coronavirus outbreak, with Liverpool a record 25 points clear at the summit and needing only two wins from their remaining nine games to lift the championship for the first time since 1990.
A statement from the Premier League said on Friday: “The Premier League’s priority is the health and safety of players, coaches, managers, club staff, supporters and the wider community.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson left one Reds fan stunned when he appeared on a special video call.
David Kerruish, who is a season ticket holder in the Main Stand, was seen wiping his tears away after he was surprised by the skipper live on video.
The special call, arranged by NIVEA MEN, took place after David’s sister Chris and wife Angela had shared his heartbreaking story with the club.
At the start of the emotional clip, which was posted on social media on Friday morning, Henderson explained that he was meant to meet David in person, but with the current circumstances, he was unable to do so which is why a video meeting was instead arranged.
