Moses Simon’s Nantes Defeats Monaco, Reaches Final. It was quite a thrilling game between Nantes and Monaco on Wednesday evening as both teams tried to edge over to the finals.
However, it was Moses Simon’s Nantes that triumphed after the end of normal regulation time and penalties, sending them to their first cup final since twenty two years.
Monaco were up front after just twelve minutes into the game through Guillermo Maripan header goal, and then in the twenty first minute, Nantes counter attack saw Djibril Sidibe scoring against his side as he tried to defend the ball from reaching Nantes striker, making it 1-1.
At the return of the second half, Samuel Moutoussamy then put Nantes in the forward by a sublime blocked shot making it 2-1 in the 74th minute but with 14 minutes left, Monaco still had more to dish as they equalized through Myron Boadu’s header effort.
In the French Cup extra-time can only be played in the final, so the match moved quickly to penalties, with Monaco missing their first and third penalty kick by goalkeeper, Remy Descamps saving penalties from Wissam Ben Yedder and Axel Disasi and Aurelien Tchouameni blazed over the bar, it took only Moses Simon’s flick penalty kick to send Nantes to their first Cup final since 2000.
After the win, Nantes fans invaded the pitch to celebrate their win,as the security had to create a small opening for the players to celebrate, as they echoed, “we are in the final”.
Nantes will now face Nice on the 7th of May, 2022 at Stade de France.
This will be Nice first final appearance since 1997 in the competition which they have won three times.
Lille OSC were the last team to have won the Ligue 1 cup after they defeated Paris Saint Germain. Although Paris Saint Germain have won the cup more than any other team in the last decade, they were knocked out of the competition by Nice on penalties.
May 7th, 2022 holds so much anticipation as both teams have long been far away from finals. Which team will come out winners of the cup is what lies in every football lover in the world.
