Premier League club arrested on suspicion of child sex offences. The player’s club has confirmed he has been suspended as police inquiries continue.

A footballer with a Premier League club has been arrested on suspicion of committing child sex offences.

The 31-year-old player, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has also been suspended by his club following the arrest.

He was arrested by Greater Manchester Police on Friday and has since been released on bail as police inquiries continue.

Police in Manchester said the arrest took place at the end of last week, although the case was not reported until last night when his club released a statement, writes the Manchester Evening News.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Officers arrested a 31-year-old man on Friday 16 July 2021 on suspicion of child sex offences.

Last night (June 19), the player’s club confirmed that he had been suspended as a result of the investigation and arrest.

A spokesperson said the club would ‘continue to support the authorities with their inquiries’ and that no further comment would be made at this time.

“We can confirm we have suspended a first-team player pending a police investigation”, the statement said.

“The club will continue to support the authorities with their inquiries and will not be making any further statement at this time.”
