Senegal on Wednesday thrashed Burkina-Faso 3-1 to qualify for the AFCON 2022 finals.
It was a tense first half at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium, which saw Senegal’s two penalty decisions overturned and Burkina Faso subbing their first choice goalkeeper Herve Koffi due to injury in the 36th minutes as the first half ended goalless.
However, the second half was filled with action, especially in the 70th minute when Senegal’s captain Koulibaly gave a bicycle kick assist to Abdou Diallo to have their first goal registered.
Six minutes later, Sadio Mane capitalized on Burkina-Faso’s poor defending as he assisted Gueye to score their second goal.
The stallion of Burkina-Faso raised their hopes of qualifying six minutes later after a goal from 27 years old I.B Toure, but those hopes were soon crashed after a Sadio Mane’s put up a solo counterattack goal, to seal off any dreams of winning for Burkina-Faso in the 87th minute.
Senegal has now qualified for Afcon finals for the second time in a roll, but have never won the cup. They now face the winner of the Thursday semifinal game between Egypt and Cameroon.
Would Sunday be the day Senegal finally lifts the trophy?
