Two Mourinho boys had very different resolutions

Two Mourinho boys had very different resolutions, the two close friends at Tottenham have been enjoying a holiday together before the Belgian takes on a new challenge in his career.

Jan Vertonghen has posted a poignant photo of a summer holiday with former Tottenham Hotspur team-mate Eric Dier as he prepares for a new challenge.

Both Vertonghen and Dier had very different resolutions to questions over their Spurs future in July.

Dier signed a new four-year deal at the club but Vertonghen’s deal came to an end and he departed the north London club after eight years of wearing the Spurs shirt.

The Belgian has been linked with a move to various teams around Europe, with Roma believed to be keen on taking Vertonghen to Italy.

Former Spurs technical director Franco Baldini is now an adviser to Roma and is believed to have pushed the case to bring in the Belgian.

Vertonghen hinted after departing Tottenham that a decision on his future would become clear soon enough and it looks like he has been enjoying some rest ahead of the new chapter in his career.

The Belgian posted an image on his Instagram Story of him playing chess on a boat while away with Dier, with the sun, somewhat fittingly, coming down on their time together that day.

Dier has been using his downtime to see the world with his Spurs team-mates ahead of the return to pre-season in less than a fortnight’s time.

The centre-back had been on holiday with Argentines Erik Lamela and Giovani Lo Celso before seemingly meeting up with Vertonghen.

The Tottenham players have been spread out across Europe as they look to recharge in the quick turnaround between Premier League seasons.

Spurs in particular have three extra Europa League matches to play next month, if successful, as they begin life in the second qualifying round.

Dier and his Tottenham team-mates will need to make sure they are fully refreshed ahead of a season that could involve 68 matches if Jose Mourinho’s men are successful on all fronts.
