The fight for third place in AFCON 2021 was indeed one filled with drama as last night was filled with emotions, drama and fulfilled dreams.
The host came from losing 3-0, to equalizing and taking the game between Burkinafaso to extra time and winning 5-3 on penalty shootout to finish third place.

The game had initially been a night of woe for the indomitable lions, as Burkinafaso were bent on making the host and supporter weep in their home soil.
In the 24th minute, 29 year old Steeve Yago of Aris Limassol, struck the ball high into the net, from a beautiful cross from Issa Kabore.
The Stallions extended this run in the 43rd minute by an home by the Cameroonain goalkeeper Andre Obama, as he failed to make this ball his own.
Four minutes after the start of the second half, the Indomitable lions were further saddened by a header from right winger Dango Ouattara, making the score line 3-0 in the 49th minute.
However things didn’t remain that way for Cameroon in the 71st minute, as Dango Ouattara had other plans scoring and bringing back the hopes of the host to live.
The Captain of Cameroonain team and the highest goalscorer of the tournament Vincent Abuobakar, in the 85th minute decided to show the Stallions the stuff he was made of, scoring an header and then capitalizing on the mistake of the opponent’s goalkeeper Farid Ouedraogo, taking the game into extra time.
After 90 minutes, the Indomitable lions only needed a weak penalty take from I.B. Toure to hand Cameroon their first bronze for over 50 years of the competition.
Today, Egypt will face Senegal to decide the winner of the tournament.
